The University
is located in the historic city of Charlottesville and surrounded
by beautiful Albemarle county nestled in the foothills of
the Blue Ridge Mountains, 30 min from the Blue
Ridge Parkway and Skyline
Drive. The climate is mild. The city and county have a
combined population of well over 100,000 people, so that students
attending the University of Virginia experience the amenities
and attractions of a city combined with the charm and ambience
of rural America. Washington, D.C., is just two hours away
by car or train. Major airlines connect the Charlottesville/Albemarle airport
to several major hubs.
The homes of three of America's
early presidents (Thomas
Jefferson, James
Madison and James
Monroe) are near Charlottesville. They are just a small part of the historical heritage
that surrounds the University. Jefferson's original "Academical
Village" remains an active part of the University of
Virginia and has been recently named to the World Heritage
List in view of its historical significance.
This combination
of climate, history and academic excellence provides a uniquely
rewarding educational experience.
