The 2016-2017 Executive Board

(Chapter Advisor: Professor Michael L. King)

President: Richard Young

Richard is a 4th year chemical engineering major with a minor in computer science from Ashburn, VA. Richard is interested in pursuing biopharmaceutical manufacturing upon graduation. Over the  summer of 2016, he worked as an API manufacturing intern at Eli Lilly in Indianapolis, IN. Richard is also involved in protein chromatography research with Professor Carta. In his free time, Richard also plays on the UVA Club Ultimate Frisbee team, Night Train.

Vice President of Operations: Tariq Jaser

Tariq is a 3rd year chemical engineering student from Saudi Arabia who is also pursuing a bachelor of science in environmental science at the University of Virginia. He is interested in energy (not limited to the petroleum industry), sustainability, and water treatment. Tariq is eager to put the variety of skills gained from Chem E to work in either an industrial setting or smaller scale projects globally. His hobbies and interests include but are not limited to: long walks on the beach, riding into the sunset on horseback, piña coladas, and getting caught in the rain.

Treasurer: Genevieve Glista

Genevieve is a current third year chemical engineering student from McLean, Virginia. In addition to serving as Treasurer for AIChE, Genevieve conducts undergraduate research in the Materials Science department. Upon graduation, she hopes to work in the clean energy and sustainability industry. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, being outside, going to concerts, and reading/watching Game of Thrones.

Secretary: Meghan Pinezich

Meghan is a 4th year ChemE and French major from Long Island, NY.  After graduation, Meghan hopes to pursue a PhD and a career in chemical engineering research. Meghan spent summer 2016 doing research at the Singh Center for Nanotechnology at UPenn. At UVA, she is a member of the Lampe Group where she is working on the design of a drug delivery system for repair of damaged tissue in the central nervous system. Outside of class, Meghan enjoys working as a resident advisor, salsa dancing, and long distance running.

Social Chair: Shivanni Sukha

Shivanni Sukha is a 4th year from Denville, NJ. She is interested in using her ChemE degree to work in the consumer product industry, preferably in cosmetics. She spent Summer 2016 as an Engineering Intern at Origio, Inc., in Charlottesville, where she analyzed the manufacturing process of the WorkCell lab and made improvements on overall efficiency. Shivanni has served as AIChE webmaster in the past, as well as Treasurer and New Member Coordinator for Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. Outisde of her extracurriculars, Shivanni enjoys playing tennis and listening to hip-hop music.

Mentorship Chair: Chanlee Luu

Chanlee is a 4th yr from Martinsville, which is in Southern VA and was the site of DuPont’s 2nd Nylon plant back in the day. She is planning on minoring in Global Sustainability and hopes to work in renewable energy or food science. She is excited to help create a supportive network among the years and reach out to 1st years as ChemE Seminar Leader for Daedalus. Outside of ChemE, she is involved in the Vietnamese Student Association, Society of Women Engineers, and many more.  For fun, she enjoys going to UPC events, cheering on her favorite teams in the NFL/NBA, fangirling over Taylor Swift, and watching Superhero shows/movies.

Webmaster: Raleigh Heap

Raleigh is a 4th year ChemE major and Engineering Business minor from Chatham, NJ. She is interested in pursuing industrial opportunities upon graduation. She spent summer 2016 as a Process Safety Intern at Celgene in Summit, NJ. Raleigh is also a member of Teresa Culver’s bioretention site research team in the UVA Environmental Engineering department and the UVA ChemE Car team. Outside of class, Raleigh is a member of Sigma Kappa sorority and enjoys playing UVA Women’s Club Ultimate Frisbee.

Co-Historian: Sydney Stenseth

IMG_7916Sydney is a 3rd year chemical engineering student from Falls Church, VA minoring in global sustainability. She hopes to pursue a career in the renewable energy industry after graduation. In addition to being the Historian for AIChE, Sydney also serves as the philanthropy chair for Alpha Omega Epsilon and gives tours of the engineering school to prospective students visiting UVA. In her free time Sydney likes to play ultimate frisbee and soccer, ski race, attend concerts and read.

Outside of ChemE, she is a member of Theta Tau -Professional Engineering Fraternity, Jewish Social Connection, and Madison House Volunteering. ChemE Car President: Kayla Matis

Kayla Matis is a 4th year chemical engineering from Charlotte, NC. After graduation, she hopes to pursue a career in the pharmaceutical industry or further her education in chemical engineering. At UVA, she serves as a drill instructor and baritone player in the Cavalier Marching Band, an office worker in the music department, the fundraising chair of Alpha Omega Epsilon Sorority, the activities coordinator for Girls Excited about Math and Science, and as a tour guide for potential engineering students.

ChemE Car Vice President: Greta Hucek

Greta is a 4th year chemical engineer from Western Springs, IL. This past summer, she worked in the Regulatory Compliance department at Belle Aire Creations, a fragrance company in Chicago. Upon graduation, she hopes to work in the field in either the agriculture or food industry. Greta is also the Vice President of the engineering sorority, Alpha Omega Epsilon, and is a member of the Charlottesville Book Club. In her free time, she enjoys reading, running, hiking, and planting.

ACRC Head Director: Maggie Osmundsen

Maggie is a 4th year chemical engineering major from Portland, OR. She is interested in pursuing a career in the cosmetic or consumer goods industry after graduation. Maggie worked at Axalta Coating Systems in Front Royal, VA during the summer of 2016. At U.Va. she conducts research for the Green Group on 3D simulations of faceted nano-particles. Apart from chemical engineering, Maggie enjoys dancing with the University Dance Club and Salsa Club, traveling and baking.

ACRC Committee Member: Derek Wu

Derek is a 3rd year Chemical Engineer from Fort Myers, Florida. He is pursuing a concentration in Biochemical Engineering and hopes to go to medical school after graduation. Derek does research with the Lysiak Lab in the medical school, and worked there during the summer of 2016. Outside of academics, he is also very involved in Relay For Life and the Vietnamese Student Association.

Justin is a 4th year Chemical Engineering student from Northfield, NJ. In addition to Chemical Engineering, he is pursuing minors in Materials Science and Engineering Business. He hopes to one day use his technical background to work in research and development of green technologies. Justin is a member of the University Jazz Ensemble, O-Records, and the Vice President of OXE, UVA’s Chemical Engineering Honor Society.

ACRC Committee Member: Sohum Shirgaonkar

img_8421Sohum is a 3rd year from Centreville, VA who is interested in pursuing either pharmaceuticals, alternative energy, or consulting in the future. In the summer of 2013, Sohum interned at the research and development facility of a biotechnology/pharmaceutical company in Pune, Maharashtra, India. He also serves as a co-director for the Academic and Professional Development Committee on the Engineering Student Council executive board and is a dancer on the UVA Di Shaan Bhangra team. In his free time, he enjoys playing basketball, frisbee, or volunteering to play piano at the hospital with the Musicians on Call organization.

Wahoo Wizards Co-President: Nick Brown

Nick is a 4th year chemical engineer pursuing a materials science minor from Alexandria, VA. He is interested in working in the specialty chemicals industry or consulting after graduation. At UVA, Nick is involved with ESWB, and works as a Sustainability Student Employee for the Office of Sustainability. He is also a philanthropy co-chair for Pi Lambda Phi Fraternity and in his free time, Nick enjoys playing video games, watching funny shows, and swimming.

Wahoo Wizards Co-President: Nick Morrow

Nick is a chemical engineering student from Seattle, WA pursuing an engineering business minor. He is interested in the nuclear energy industry and cooking. At UVA, Nick is involved with Wahoo Wizards, where he goes to various elementary and middle schools in the Albemarle County area to do science experiments and talk to children about STEM careers. Nick works as a teaching assistant for Modeling and Simulations during the Spring semester, where he enjoys keeping the legacy of Michael Shirts alive. In his free time, Nick enjoys rock climbing, volleyball, and hiking through the beautiful Appalachians.
