It’s only October, but our AIChE chapter has already accomplished a lot! Here’s the run down of some of the events we’ve held so far this fall.

Welcome Back Dinner +1st General Body Meeting
September 12th, 5:30 PM
Faculty and students from around Chemical Engineering came together at Ern Commons to ring in the new school year. Professor Ford and Professor Norton both spoke to the group, class representatives were elected, and the event was catered by Chipotle!

Congratulations to our new Class Reps!

“Taking Advantage of the Career Fair” Student Panel
September 16th, 5:30 PM
Held just before the annual Engineering Career Days on grounds, ChemE’s had the opportunity to hear from upperclassmen about their experience in industry, research, internships, and how career fairs helped them get there.

Syngenta Info Session
September 16th, 6:30 PM
Syngenta is one of the companies AIChE is proudest to have a relationship with, so we were happy to have them come and share what they do as a company and what opportunities they may have for chemical engineering students at UVA.

Fall Networking Night
September 17th, 6:30 PM
Companies like Ashland Inc., Axalta Coating Systems, Evonik Goldschmidt Corp., Exxon Mobil, INVISTA, Merck & Co. Inc., and Syngenta were all represented, as well was ChemE Alumni Mr. H. Jackson Knight, Mr. Adam Silver, Ms. Kara Graber, and Mr. Scott Nagley. The event was partially sponsored by the UVA Center for Engineering Career Development and was a great success!

ChemE Mentorship Kick-off
October 3rd, 3:00 PM
Our mentorship program pairs up upperclass chemical engineering students with second years who share similar interests or aspirations as a way to get students more involved in AIChE and serve as role models throughout the year. This event was an ice cream social for mentors and mentees to meet and mingle, and was really well attended.

Alumni Visit from Dave Eckhardt
October 9th, 6:00 PM
Mr. Eckhardt joined us to talk about his 40+ year career in industry. He worked for DuPont and CH2M Hill among others, and we were very excited to hear from him!
