Honors and Awards for Chemical Engineering Graduate Students

Special awards available to Chemical Engineering graduate students, especially for excellence in teaching.

Excellence in Doctoral Study Award
Award established by the publisher John Wiley & Sons, Inc. to honor UVa faculty member, Elmer L. Gaden, Jr., when he retired as Editor of the journal Biotechnology & Bioengineering. Recipients of this award are chosen by the CHE faculty.

Chemical Engineering Special Recognition Award
Award established by the ChE Faculty to recognize academic achievement, an outstanding doctoral dissertation and service to the department. Recipients of this award are chosen by the CHE faculty.

Louis T. Rader Chemical Engineering Prize
Award to recognize academic ability, ability to get along with people and demonstrated ability to work hard. Recipients of this award are chosen by the CHE faculty.

School of Engineering Graduate Teaching Assistant Award
Award to recognize excellence in teaching assistance. Recipients are chosen by the CHE faculty from nominations by faculty and undergraduate students. Recent awardees are: Gail Dempsey (2002); Priyam Sheth (2003); Andrew Trimmer (2003); Michael Janik (2005).

All-University Graduate Teaching Awards
Award to recognize excellence in teaching assistance. Recipients are chosen by a University committee from nominations by undergraduate students. Recent CHE awardees are: Gail Dempsey (2002); Michael Janik (2005).
