Multidisciplinary Research

Most of the chemical engineering faculty are involved in multidisciplinary research at UVa. Thus, chemical engineering graduate students have the opportunity to participate and benefit from interactions with students and faculty from other Departments.

The Biophysics Program
Research in this program applies physical and chemical principles to the behavior of biological systems ranging from the sub-cellular level to whole organisms. [More] >>

NIH Biotechnology Doctoral Training Program
This program supports interdisciplinary biotechnology doctoral education with special emphasis on cell/matrix interactions. [More] >>

The Center for Electrochemical Sciences and Engineering
This Center draws together experts from Chemical Engineering and Materials Science around the common themes of corrosion, electrochemical reactions and electrochemical phenomena. [More] >>

Program of Interdisciplinary Research in Contaminant Hydrogeology (PIRCH)
This program focuses on fundamental and applied problems associated with chemical contamination of the subsurface environment. Doctoral fellowships supported by the US Department of Education program for Graduate Assistance in Areas of National Need (GAANN) are available.
